- Texas Gun Rights Attorney Challenges Immunity Shield in Major Second Amendment Case.
- The US Justice Department sued Denver on Tuesday (case), alleging that the city’s decades-old ban on semi-automatic weapons violates the Second Amendment. Of course it does. They’re only 37 years late.
- The DOJ also sued Colorado on Wednesday seeking to strike down a 13-year-old state ban on standard-capacity firearm ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.
- The US Supreme Court once again took no action on five cert petitions challenging bans on so-called assault weapons and large capacity magazines on Monday, and will likely schedule the cases for the Court’s next conference.
- SCOTUS denied hearing a case that alleged an Indiana gun shop fueled gun violence in Chicago. The case, Westforth Sports v. Chicago, accused an Indiana gun shop of selling firearms to “straw purchasers.” An Illinois Appeals Court ruled in favor of Chicago, finding the gun store targeted Illinois customers and regularly sold to Illinois buyers, including straw purchasers.

- SCOTUS gerrymandering case. To be perfectly clear: I have no issue with majority-black, majority-white, or majority-whatever districts. My issue is that they should be fairly and objectively drawn without regard to what the result might or might not be. NO gerrymandering.

- Fake Law. Second Amendment Roundup: How a Fake Citation Misled Courts to Uphold “Sensitive Place” Gun Bans. I believe I have said from Day 1 of the Heller decision that “sensitive places” are NOT constitutional and were simply made up by Justice Scalia.
Government
- Mr. Crump says that ATF’s machine gun definition – revised to comply with a SCOTUS decision – isn’t revised enough. That’s fair. But I say the entire law is facially unconstitutional, never mind the details.
- ATF Moves to Expand Protections for Traveling Across State Lines with Guns. I suspect this will have little actual effect, since most problems travelers are likely to have are with the local authorities, who pay no attention to ATF.
The Only Ones
GFZs
- Amtrack is proposing allowing passengers to carry guns – stored in lockboxes – on the company’s trains. Currently the company’s rules require people to declare guns and allow the railroad to lock them up with the checked baggage. We especially note that passengers apparently aren’t screened to see if they are carrying guns on trains. The proposed rule change, which the railroad could begin testing soon, calls for adding lockboxes to its trains to allow passengers throughout the country to bring guns aboard, instead of only allowing guns on trains that have locked baggage cars. The change would open up more than 1,500 trains a day to allowing guns aboard — including the routes that roughly 750,000 people travel every day in Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor — instead of the current rule that only allows guns on a couple dozen mostly long-distance trains that have locked baggage cars.

Industry News
- Ruger blinked and let Beretta kick the can down the road. Now what do you suppose will happen when the “three-year standstill” expires? Beretta is 500 years old and owns 50 companies. Ruger is playing into their hands, in my opinion.
- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, aka the Mounties, are switching to 9mm Glock 45 MOS (Modular Optics System) pistols, with red dots and weapon lights. There are nearly 20,000 uniformed RCMP officers in Canada, and our report says that Glocks will now be used by nearly 95% of Canadian Law Enforcement personnel. Before adopting the new Glock, the RCMP’s issue handgun was the Smith & Wesson Model 5946, chambered in 9mm. No word on the issued ammo.
- SIGonometry. Et tu, SIG rifles? Of course there is that little Rule 2 violation.

- ATN’s new TICO 6 Thermal Clip-On is a next-generation thermal clip-on designed for hunters who want the performance of the best thermal clip on without giving up the daytime riflescope they already know and trust. It comes with a Quick Detach Mount (QDM) that allows you to seamlessly attach it to any scope. I wonder if there’s an easy way to clip it to a shotgun vent rib? Starting at $1100.
- Winchester’s new AutoBuck is an all-new buckshot shotshell engineered specifically to reliably function in semi-automatic shotguns, as well as pump action, break action, and others. It is a 2¾”, 12-pellet load of #1 Buck at 1325 fps. But I’ve found no decent quality buckshot that doesn’t reliably function in a working gun.
- Gear Review: OPENROAD 4WD Truck Cap. This thing is VERY impressive, as is the price. On sale for $2700.
