Litigation, Legislation, Government
- Firearms Policy Coalition, joined by the Colorado State Shooting Association, filed a new federal lawsuit, Elliott v. Denver, challenging Denver’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” and Denver’s and Colorado’s bans on magazines that can hold more than 15 rounds. Remember that the US Department of Justice also filed lawsuits against these same malodorous laws back in May (see the May 8 edition of 2ANews for details).
- Gun Owners of America and Gun Owners Foundation, with Craig Philips, an honorably discharged Air Force and Gulf War veteran, have filed a federal lawsuit in the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania challenging Pennsylvania’s statutory lifetime denial of Licenses to Carry Firearms (LTCF) for individuals with minor, nonviolent drug convictions.
- The Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition have filed a SCOTUS petition for a writ of certiorari in Calce v. City of New York, a case challenging New York City’s total ban on the possession of less-lethal electronic arms.
- A unanimous three-judge panel for the US Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals revived a federal prosecution against an Indiana man accused of illegally possessing firearms after a prior involuntary mental health commitment. Court said that the federal ban in question is facially constitutional. However, it also held the law is potentially susceptible to as-applied challenges and said the lower court needed to conduct further fact-finding to determine the defendant’s dangerousness before dismissing the charges. In short, guns may be banned for people who ARE mentally ill, but not for those who USED TO BE mentally ill.
- The US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit just revived a Bruen-era lawsuit against the District of Columbia, allowing a case to proceed challenging the District’s ban on concealed carry on public transportation. In August of 2024, the district court erroneously denied a preliminary injunction and dismissed Angelo, et al. v. District of Columbia, citing lack of standing. (News2A is unrelated to 2ANews.)
- The Appellate Court of Maryland upheld last week the state’s ban on firearm possession by people under 21 years of age.

- Your tax dollars at work, mostly working against your other tax dollars.
- ATF Director Robert Cekada: “We condemn any program that involves enforcing unconstitutional ‘laws,’ even if such ‘laws’ are enforced only against violent criminals. Unconstitutional ‘laws’ are illegal, harmful to public safety, tyrannical, and are inevitably enforced against ordinary, non-criminal citizens.” But as one commenter pointed out, all of the laws within the purview of ATF are unconstitutional.
NRA, Foundation
- Earlier this year the National Rifle Association sued their subsidiary organization the NRA (1791) Foundation in federal court. Federal Judge Sparkle Sooknanan dismissed some portions of the suit because she felt D.C. Superior Court was the most appropriate venue. The NRA has now filed its complaint in D.C.’s local courts, and in it the NRA again alleges that the NRA Foundation — now rebranded to The 1791 Foundation — engaged in trademark infringement, cybersquatting, and claimed their sister organization was withholding funds from the NRA proper.
Enemies
- The National Shooting Sports Foundation has launched a new initiative designed to expose the financial architecture behind the gun control movement by naming the billionaires who fund it, the organizations they bankroll, and the media apparatus that carries its water. We will continue to call out the commies here as well.

- Shooting steel. FWIW, I had a buddy who was struck by a 180-degree ricochet off a rock, from a .458 Win. Mag. if I remember correctly. Fortunately the round was mostly expended before it hit his leg and made him fall down with no significant injury. Don’t depend on luck.
- Have a plan. “The little ‘pocket-rocket .380s and tiny snub .38s’ may not be the best choice for a primary defense gun.”

- The T48 rifle was the US produced FAL type 7.62 NATO rifle that competed against the M14 and AR-10 in the service rifle trials of the 1950s. H&R has a limited run recreation with 100% US-made components. $3300 at PSA, IF you can find it.
- NDEX pistol sights use a rear sight at the rear, and another rear sight at the front. Interesting. Glock only.
