• Gun Group, Republican Candidate Transfer Unregistered Silencer as DOJ Misses Stay Deadline. (NOTE: letting the injunction stay expire is not the same as running out the case appeal clock. As a party to a civil suit, the government still has roughly seven more weeks to decide whether to appeal the case on the merits. It simply chose not to try to keep the injunction frozen in the meantime. More details here. Read the opinion here.)

• Action item: Tell Your Senator: Don’t Let The DOJ Appeal GOA’s NFA Case! 48 Republican lawmakers from both the Senate and the House have signed a joint letter urging Attorney General Todd Blanche not to appeal. We hear that the DOJ will not appeal, but it’s not official.
• The US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has reinstated the district court’s injunction against Hawaii’s private-property “vampire rule” after the US Supreme Court reversed the panel’s earlier decision in Wolford v. Lopez, and ordered the Circuit to fix its error.
• The US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit reversed a methamphetamine user’s conviction under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3), which prohibits an unlawful drug user from possessing a firearm. Citing developments in case law since the defendant’s conviction, the three-judge panel in United States v. Striplin remanded the case to the district court for renewed consideration of the defendant’s as-applied Second Amendment challenge.
• US District Judge Sarala V. Nagala of the District of Connecticut rejected Second and Fourteenth Amendment challenges to federal and Connecticut laws prohibiting anyone under 21 years old from purchasing, possessing, and carrying a handgun. The case is Succow, et al. v. Blanche, et al. (2026). Look for this one to go into the appeals hopper.
• New Lawsuit Filed Over Colorado and Denver’s Carry Restrictions for Non-Residents.
• Following the US Supreme Court’s decision to review Viramontes v. Cook County (IL) and Grant v. Higgins (CT) in the next term, lower courts are staying active litigation on semiautomatic firearms. They are waiting for the Supreme Court to issue a definitive ruling on whether popular semi-automatic rifles like AR-15s are protected by the Second Amendment. (They are.)

• A Tuscon man is suing Pima County and the Sheriff’s Department, alleging deputies and 911 dispatchers failed to properly respond to an April 10 “swatting” call that directed deputies to his home, where they shot him multiple times, leaving him paralyzed. It turns out this ain’t the first rodeo for these keystone cops.
• Arizona man catches fire after federal officer deploys TASER at gas pump.
• Note the TASER fire and explosion warnings near the bottom. Those are for very dense people, and lawyers.
• Dallas Police Officer Celso Rocha fired four shots after mistaking an undercover officer for a suspect during the arrest of a man accused of vehicle theft. Fortunately he was a bad shot.
• Former Mississippi lawman and city council member Marshand Crisler, who was sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison after his November 2024 conviction of soliciting and accepting bribes and knowingly providing ammunition to a convicted felon, has been released early.

• It turns out that one of the good guy defenders — a former cop — at the Idaho In-N-Out attack was carrying a chamber-empty (i.e., unloaded) gun. Once he got shot in the arm, he was of course unable to return fire. This was discussed in the first hour of Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk radio last Sunday. Do not carry with your chamber empty.

• New Orleans becomes the first major US city to use AI for 911 calls. The Orleans Parish Communication District, which receives over a thousand emergency dials per day, among the highest volume in the country, is now routing all 911 calls to an AI Agent that determines the minuscule minority that get bumped-up to a dwindling number of human dispatchers, and all the others that get handled only by AI — probably the same robot that answers your credit card calls. You’re on your own.
