- Immediately after the June 18 US Supreme Court ruling that the statute making it illegal for marijuana users to purchase and own firearms runs afoul of the Second Amendment, the ATF announced it will be issuing new guidance soon on pot users and guns.
- In a 6-3 decision, SCOTUS ruled that Hawaii’s “vampire law” that required gun owners to obtain permission from an owner before bringing a gun onto their private property — otherwise open to the public — is unconstitutional on Second and Fourteenth Amendment grounds. The state can’t make CCW illegal by default. New York, New Jersey, Maryland and California have similar laws, sometimes referred to as a “vampire law” because it aligns with the lore in “Dracula” that says the vampire antagonist is not allowed into homes unless invited first. Opinion by Samuel Alito. Justice Barrett wrote a concurring opinion, which Justices Thomas and Gorsuch joined as to Part II-B. Justice Kagan wrote a dissenting opinion. Justice Jackson wrote a dissenting opinion, joined by Justice Sotomayor.

NRA
- US District Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan has ruled that the NRA can pursue its trademark claims against the NRA Foundation in federal court, but not its other claims. The Foundation previously had permission to use the NRA’s marks, and now it allegedly does not. Judge Sooknanan declined to decide the group’s claims that the Foundation’s leadership unlawfully changed its bylaws to sever the NRA’s control after control of the group changed hands. She said those issues should be left for a DC court where the Foundation is based.
