Arkansas AG reverses predecessor’s opinion, agrees open carry is legal there.
Extremely anti-gun Pennsylvania AG Kathleen Kane (D) will stand trial on charges she leaked secret grand jury information to embarrass a rival prosecutor after a judge rejected her lawyer’s contention that she could have instead humiliated him with pornography. Kane, 49, is also charged with lying under oath about the alleged leak, ordering aides to illegally snoop through computer files to keep tabs on the investigation into it and harming the reputation of a former civil rights leader who was named in the leaked documents. She could face up to seven years in prison if convicted of the perjury charge. Ironically, Kane left the suburban Philadelphia courthouse flanked by bodyguards.
Kane has also been named the worst state AG in the nation in a Competitive Enterprise Institute study.
Mississippi AG Jim Hood (D), who is somewhat schizophrenic on gun laws, was named number two on their list of the nation’s worst state AGs.
California’s anti-gun AG Kamala Harris (D) was number four.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute is a DC-based non-profit public policy organization founded in 1984 whose goal is to advance the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty. CEI publishes original scholarly studies and its analysts provide commentaries to major television, radio and print news outlets.
Four criteria were used in considering the list of the nation’s worst AGs:
– Ethical breaches and selective applications of law. (Hood rated F)
– Fabricating law. (Hood rated D)
– Usurping legislative powers. (Hood rated D)
– Predatory practices. (Hood rated F)
I suspect that Hood probably would have rated an F in fabricating law if the researchers had read his opinion on the open carry law, in which Hood “created” law that doesn’t exist.
