The Only Ones (again)

An unidentified Madison, MS, Police Department dispatcher was hospitalized after police say he accidentally shot himself in the abdomen while he was cleaning his personal weapon at his home last weekend.

Rules for gun cleaning/work:

#1. Load another gun.
#2. Unload gun to be worked on.
#3. Make sure unloaded gun is in fact unloaded.
#4. Make sure again.

Corinth, MS Police Lt. Jerry Mayhall, a 15-year police veteran, was arrested and charged with domestic violence last week after an altercation with his girlfriend, who was not injured. Mayhall, 54, has since tendered his resignation.

Joshua Wheeler, 25, of Atchison, Kansas, a summer intern for Republican US Representative Lynn Jenkins (R-KS), was arrested by US Capitol Police at the Longworth House Office Building in Washington this week after police found an unloaded S&W 9mm handgun during a security search as Wheeler entered the building. Wheeler was charged with carrying a pistol without a license and having an unregistered firearm, which are felonies in the District of Columbia. The report indicates his possession at the time was “accidental.”

When was the last time you heard of a senator or congressman being arrested on felony charges for this? Nope, it’s only the little guys like aides and staffers.

A recent internal investigation by the Department of Homeland Security has found security failures at dozens of the nation’s busiest airports that allowed undercover investigators to smuggle weapons, fake explosives and other contraband through numerous checkpoints. The “Red Teams” of DHS agents posing as passengers were able get weapons past Transportation Security Administration agents in 67 out of 70 tests, a 95% failure rate, equivalent to getting a 5 out of 100 on the test. The acting TSA chief was then fired, but he wasn’t the one doing the screenings.

We also learn from Judicial Watch that the TSA has reported hundreds of lost, stolen or missing agency badges since 2012. JW also obtained records that detail alleged sexually-related assaults on passengers by TSA personnel at three major US international airports.

The TSA is part of the Department of Homeland Security with a multi-billion-dollar budget and more than 60,000 employees, but several hundred fewer badges.

I feel so safe in those gun free zones now.
