On December 17, pro-Second Amendment candidate Col. Martha McSally (USAF-Ret) (R) was officially declared the winner in the recount of the closely contested race for Arizona’s second congressional district over incumbent pro-gun control Representative Ron Barber (D). Barber previously defeated McSally in a 2012 election for the same seat.
Arizona’s second district is gun-banner Gabby Giffords’ former seat, and Barber is one of her former staffers. Col. McSally, a former A-10 Warthog pilot with combat hours and America’s first female combat pilot, has been appointed to serve on the Armed Services and Homeland Security committees in the House.
According to Roll Call, McSally won the election by 167 votes.
