  • We have recently (finally) had the opportunity to switch our internet and landline phone from AT&T DSL/copper to CSpire fiber. CSpire works. AT&T doesn’t. ‘Nuff said.

Shutdown

  • We have word that – under pressure – the ATF’s National Firearms Act examiners have returned to work to resume the processing of applications for lawful transfers of suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, etc.
  • President Donald Trump has directed the US Fish and Wildlife Service to allow hunting on the nearly 600 National Wildlife Refuges across the country amid the shutdown that has left many of the agency’s employees furloughed. According to the plan, refuge law enforcement officers will be exempt from the furlough in addition to at least one employee who will remain on site for safety purposes. The visitor centers will stay closed for the time being, but the hunts will go on as planned.

Industry News

  • Ring, ring. Law enforcement agencies will soon have easier access to footage captured by Amazon’s Ring smart cameras. In a partnership announced last week, Amazon will allow approximately 5,000 local law enforcement agencies to request access to Ring camera footage via surveillance platforms from Flock Safety. Participation is voluntary and specific to an event.
  • Sig. The State of New Jersey sued gunmaker Sig Sauer last week, seeking a recall of Sig Sauer P320 handguns and a bar on their sales in the state. Sig responds to the claims.
  • J.P. Sauer & Sohn is the world’s second-oldest gunmaking company in continuous operation after Beretta. Founded 274 years ago in 1751.

  • Best ad of the year, from Big Horn Armory: “You didn’t need that Corvette either.”
  • Glock updates. Rumor is that the large number of discontinued models is responding to “Glock Switch” issues. The new V models will have rear plates and redesigned trigger bars that will prevent the use of full-auto switches. There will be new models in .22, 9mm, .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 ACP.
  • The new Shield R.O.C., or Revolver Optic Conversion, is bringing red dot optic compatibility to S&W J-frame revolvers. But good luck getting it into your pocket with that optic on it.
  • Ruger has introduced the first ever lever-action rifle chambered in 10mm Auto, the Marlin Trapper Series Model 1894. I don’t know why.
  • Streamlight’s ultra-thin Wedge SL is 5.65 inches long, 0.55 inches wide, and only 0.28 inches thick. Just 1.14 oz. $110.
