Flying with guns

We have word that the TSA has modified its rules for transport of guns in checked baggage on domestic commercial flights. TSA is now requiring that all guns within hard or soft checked baggage be contained within a separate, hard, locked case. The separate hard gun case must be locked, and when locked, not easily pried open. Having pistols inside a zipped, soft gun rug, all within a hard piece of checked baggage is no longer allowed.

NRA

The NRA leadership has been accused of using member money to fund a covert campaign to keep Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and his supporters on the Board of Directors in power. Some are now also suspecting that the repeated rescheduling of the NRA annual meeting (which I think is required by the bylaws or its charter) wasn’t done to avoid COVID, but instead to avoid having Wayne and his Boardmen face a justifiably hostile membership.

Chicago

Also in Chicago, a 30-year veteran Chicago police officer who had recently been promoted to Deputy Chief of Criminal Networks committed suicide with a gun at the Homan Square police facility on the West Side Tuesday morning. I’m guessing the Chicago police chief will blame “lax” gun laws in other states for that, too.

The Only Ones

Barnie Fife's 1 bullet

Off-duty Langston University Police Officer Jimmie Odell Watts Jr., a CLEET certified officer working as a security guard, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he was caught on camera firing shots at an alleged shoplifting suspect who was attempting to escape outside a Del City, Oklahoma, Walmart.

Remington

As we noted last month, Remington did file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in federal court in Alabama on Monday. Apparently sale negotiations with the Navajo Nation collapsed in recent weeks, leaving the company without a lead bidder, or stalking horse. You know, if a gun maker can’t survive in this economy they probably qualify for the stupidest management team ever.

Recall

Henry Repeating Arms Company announced that it is voluntarily recalling all H015-series Single Shot Rifles and Single Shot Shotguns manufactured prior to July 1, 2020. Henry has recently discovered a potential safety issue wherein, under certain conditions, it is possible that some of these models may discharge without the trigger being pulled if the hammer is partially cocked and released.

RCBS has introduced five new reloading kits: the Rebel Plus Reloading Kit, the Rebel Master Kit, the Partner Reloading Kit-2, the Explorer Reloading Kit-2 and the Case Prep Kit. Priced from $274.95 to $649.95. RCBS also has some active rebates.

Claymore face masks. Kinda cool.
