Why do people say “Happy” Memorial Day?

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13

Litigation & Legislation

  • Indiana Court Shuts Down 27-Year-Old Lawsuit Against Gun Manufacturers.
  • A unanimous three-judge panel for the US Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that Minnesota can refuse to recognize out-of-state gun carry permits from states with which it has no reciprocity. I have little comment except to observe that the notion of requiring government permission slips to exercise Constitutional civil rights is itself facially unconstitutional, rendering reciprocity moot.
  • The National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation, and three NRA members filed a federal lawsuit – Hornbake v. Blanche – this week in the US District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, challenging the federal prohibition on carrying firearms at United States Post Offices. Federal law prohibits knowingly possessing a firearm in a federal facility – including a US Post Office – as well as carrying firearms on postal property. Violations are punishable by a fine, up to one year of imprisonment, or both. The lawsuit notes that although the first post office was established in 1639 and the Post Office Department was established by the Second Continental Congress in 1775, firearms were not prohibited in post offices until 1972. The complaint therefore contends that the post office carry ban contradicts the nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation and is thus unconstitutional. You will recall that the USPS ban – only as applied to FPC and SAF members – was already overturned by a federal district court in Texas.
  • Firearms Policy Coalition, National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation have filed a new federal lawsuit in the US District Court of Maryland, NRA v. Moore, after Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed legislation to ban semiautomatic handguns with a cruciform trigger bar, which includes nearly every Glock and Glock-style pistol on the market.
