NRA

You can hear why to vote for Frank Tait on the second hour of last Sunday’s Gun Talk radio. Even if you don’t listen, please vote for Frank, and only for Frank.

I heard someone say this week that although they no longer give money to the NRA due to its corrupt management, but they do give to some of the closely related groups, such as the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action or the Political Victory Fund. However, my understanding is that part of the corruption there involved EVP Wayne LaPierre’s attempted illicit taking of funds from the NRA-ILA, which then-ILA head Chris Cox refused, causing LaPierre to fire him. So I can’t in good conscience recommend such gifts at this time.

Legislation

Legislature in a toilet

The Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022, including its anti-gun provisions, has been signed into law by President Biden, with the support of 18 turncoat Republicans, including Mississippi’s Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker, both of whom had previously pledged not to support the bill with the gun control language in it. The act will also deputize (weaponize) local police as ATF agents and fund criminal investigations into erroneous NICS denials of law-abiding citizens.

You can send a message here.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed into law HB 272, a bill enacting Constitutional Carry (carrying a gun without the need for a permit or license) in the state. Restrictions on the carrying of a Bowie knife or a concealed knife in Alabama are also repealed. Previously a permit issued by the local sheriff was necessary even to carry a gun in your car. The bill does not take effect until January 1, 2023.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 215 on Monday, which will make it legal to carry a concealed handgun without a license in Ohio 91 days after signing.

That makes 23 states so far with Constitutional Carry. Several other states have passed bills that are now awaiting a governor’s signature to take effect, but in Florida, Republicans killed their bill for the third year in a row. Constitutional Carry is now more common than either “shall-issue” or “may-issue” permitting policies. Note that the specifics vary by state, with some Constitutional Carry states still requiring permits for concealed carry.

Meanwhile, Mississippi has earned a “First Place” rating from 24/7 Wall St. and the Giffords bunch for having the “Best” (my paraphrasing) gun laws in the nation.

Ukraine

The United States is rapidly processing requests from Americans to export firearms and ammunition to Ukraine, the U.S. Commerce Department said on Wednesday. If true, I’m impressed.

……….

Meanwhile over at the White House, Press Secretary Jen Psaki officially says that small arms including “machine guns” are quote: “defensive weapons.”

More Guns, Less Crime. Still.

Armed in Texas Schools

We note that anyone with an appropriate carry license in some states may legally carry in schools in those states (with the enhanced carry license in MS), although if you’re a school employee that might get you fired. But I figured out it’s much easer for a live person to get another job.

Sales

Although February’s gun sales were reported to be down, February of 2022 was the third highest February for gun sales since the National Instant background Check System (NICS) started in 1998. It was the fourth highest number of NICS checks done during the month of February. There were about 1.30 million guns sold using the NICS checks in February of 2022.

Camel attack.

You don’t see this headline very often, but I think I need another gun.

Enemies

“I don’t think anyone should have one [an evil black rifle], and if I can find the consensus within the Legislature to have a law in the state of Texas that allows us to buy those AK-47s and AR-15s back, we will.” – Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, 3/12/2022

That boy flips like a Slinky.

The “Doomsday Clock” is fake. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists will not move the time on the infamous “Doomsday Clock” closer to midnight despite a hot war in Europe involving a nuclear power on “high alert,” and a first-time-ever NATO mobilization, raising questions about the practices of an institution several lamestream media outlets refer to as scientific. In contrast, the clock moved three times toward midnight under former president Donald Trump, because he didn’t sufficiently address climate change and “fake news.”

The Only Ones

An unidentified off-duty New York City police officer was beaten and robbed of his gun when he got in an early morning fight in Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan.

An unidentified constable in Jamaica stopped along the road to pee behind some bushes, where she lost her gun.

Santa Cruz County [AZ] Sheriff deputy Miguel Diaz has been terminated after several people were injured by shrapnel (sic*) when he fired his weapon as he was holstering it after showing it to firefighters at a local fire station.

(*Shrapnel, technically, was metal spheres or “ball bearings” used as projectiles from an exploding anti-personnel shell, such as an artillery round. Today, the term is erroneously used to describe shell or bullet fragments as well as fragments of other items broken off and projected with some force by the impact of the original projectile.)

I don't think you know what that word means

An unidentified Orland Park (Chicago), IL, police officer accidentally shot a suspect’s car while arresting the suspect for possession of a gun without a government permission slip. Our report does not indicate a struggle or resisting arrest, so the officer was apparently just plain negligent.

They told me it wasn't loaded

Recalls

FN America, LLC announces a safety recall for the FN 502 Tactical .22LR pistol, which was previously the subject of FN’s January 27, 2022 safety bulletin. The original concern involved a missing manual safety lock lever in a small number of FN 502 Tactical pistols that would allow the discharge of the pistol when the trigger is pulled with the manual safety in the SAFE position. Since then, Umarex, the actual maker of the FN 502 Tactical, has discovered a separate concern with proper installation of the manual safety lock lever, perhaps leading to an unintended firing when the manual safety is in the SAFE position. I don’t think Umarex makes any FN guns besides the 502.

A recall notice has been issued by the Olight company in regards to two of their EDC flashlight models. Olight and the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall for over 200,000 M2R Pro and Warrior Mini flashlights over concerns regarding inadvertent activation and overheating which could pose a burn hazard. Olight is offering customers either replacement lights or store credit of 110% of the cost of the original flashlight or a full refund.

The Canik METE SFx pistol, manufactured by Samsun Domestic Defense and Industry Corp. in Turkey and imported by Century Arms, comes in a hard case with magazines and accessories as is the style today. Included in the kit is a set of screwdriver bits tucked into the hollow grip of the bit driver, which is shaped like a miniature pistol. Cute.

EAA’s Enhanced Girsan MC312 Tactical Shotgun. It fits a niche at an affordable price. However, we note that the LOP is too long and the magazine is too short, while the weight is a bit heavy. How about a 20 gauge version?

Sellier & Bellot from the Czech Republic has a new line of pistol ammo with a monolithic copper hollow-point bullet called XRG Defense. Available in .380 ACP, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, 10mm Auto and .45 ACP.

“Repuls” is a new water-based chemical deterrent spray. Effect is similar to pepper spray (OC), but decontamination requires only a bottle of water and is very rapid.
