Guns in schools

Aptly-named Liberty University, a Christian school in Lynchburg, VA, is planning to construct a new state of the art outdoor shooting complex near Camp Hideaway. The facility includes one, two, and three hundred-yard rifle ranges, several shotgun ranges, stands for shotgun shooting such as skeet, trap, five stand, and sporting clays, a pistol range, an area for three-gun competition, tactical shooting, and a potential police shoot-house.

Litigation

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed the District Court in the case of Sylvester et al v. Harris. The appeals decision found that the 10-day waiting period for California holders of a license to carry, holders of a California Certificate of Eligibility, or have firearms registered with the State of California was presumptively constitutional under intermediate scrutiny. This reversed the decision by Judge Anthony W. Ishii of the US District Court for the Eastern District of California who had found in 2014 that this waiting period contravened the Second Amendment.

Texas jury finds man not guilty of three counts of aggravated assault on police officers after he shot them during their no-knock invasion of his home. ‘Bout time. Now they need to prosecute the cops for the violent home invasion and the judge who issued the warrant.

SCOTUS

We have a report that President-elect Donald Trump plans to name his Supreme Court nominee very quickly — around the time he’s sworn-in as the 45th president.

More guns, less crime

Gun ownership has nearly doubled since 1993, while violent crime has fallen 77% in that 23 years, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

And while we’re at it, the anti-gun CDC reports that more people are killed with heroin than with guns. We have no reports of anyone saved with heroin. Maybe we should ban heroin….

Enemies

  • Professor Watchlist is a website keeping tabs on news stories about professors that advance a radical agenda in lecture halls.
  • Michael Bloomberg, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Moms Demand Action for Gunsense In America, and Everytown for Gun Safety are liars. Duh.

Dept. of Idiocy

Last week some students at THE Ohio State University demonstrated in protest of the shooting of a Muslim terrorist who used a knife and a car to maim and injure eleven people on campus two weeks ago. The protest was sponsored by the OSU Coalition for Black Liberation.

Jason Buttrill, a former Marine and a researcher for Mercury Radio Arts for a television show that airs on TheBlaze network, has been recalled from Iraq and suspended from further field assignments after he tweeted a picture showing him shooting at ISIS fighters.

I guess we know which side Mercury Radio Arts and TheBlaze are on.

The Only Ones

  • Two unidentified Volusia County, FL, sheriff’s deputies opened fire as a suspect fought with a department K-9, killing their own dog. The suspect was also hit, but escaped until the next day.
  • An unidentified Anderson County, SC, sheriff’s deputy came home from an extra duty assignment at NewSpring Church when he removed his gun from its holster and shot himself in the leg. This particular deputy is regularly assigned to Westside High School as their resource officer, according to the sheriff.
  • Sgt. Julian Prezas, 36, a former Army recruiter from San Antonio has admitted he funneled dozens of rifles to operatives of Mexico’s Gulf Cartel last year by organizing other soldiers to help him buy the weapons. Prezas pleaded guilty in two separate cases to a total of five counts of lying on federal firearms forms and attempting to export defense articles to Mexico. No indication that any of the guns were stolen from the Army.

“I can tell you anecdotally we’re seeing a number of shootings involving concealed-carry permit holders — many of whom have extensive criminal records.” — quote attributed to Milwaukee, WI, Police Chief Ed Flynn. It’s a lie. They don’t issue CCW permits to folks with criminal records and he knows it.

Punks

In Brooklyn, NY four perpetrators caught on surveillance video and accused of robbing and attacking a 30-year-old man were juveniles — two boys between the ages of 12 and 14, a girl between 12 and 14 and an 8 or 9-year-old boy. The gang punched the man and threw him to the ground before taking off with the man’s laptop, headphones and a library book.

I dunno about y’all, but I think I could take an 8-year-old. But I’m not a yuppie yankee pansy.

MS gun range

We have word of a new gun range under construction in Flowood, MS, at the intersection of Flowood Drive and Casey Lane. Memberships reported to be around $300 yearly. Handguns for sale and rent. 3 classrooms and a simulator — classes offered and classrooms rented. Opens in February, 2017.

Retirement

Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz, 76, is retiring from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety effective January 31, 2017. As commissioner for the past five years, Santa Cruz is best known to us for refusing to run the enhanced pistol permit system in accordance with statutory law, having multiple personnel scandals on his watch, and widespread reports of incompetence.

Word is that high on the list to be Cruz’s replacement is Marshall Fisher, current MS Dept. of Corrections Commissioner. Fisher has his own list of personnel scandals on his watch at MDOC.
