Oops + 4 rules of gun safety

A 12-year-old Florida girl was negligently shot in the forearm by her father during a gun safety demonstration last weekend.

The injury occurred as the girl’s father, a former Marine, was teaching her about gun safety. The weapon discharged as he was instructing her how to draw a gun from his pocket.

Rule 1: All guns are always loaded.
Rule 2: Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Rule 3: Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
Rule 4: …oops, too late.

In response, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Cooper City district is offering a free firearms safety class for children, with parents encouraged to attend as well. But we have no information indicating whether the SO has any expertise in firearm safety training.
