13 Democrat US Senators pressuring Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops

A group of 13 democrat US Senators led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) are trying to pressure Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops to ignore federal law regarding NICS checks. They want these retailers to transfer firearms if, and only if, the NICS check comes back from the FBI as “proceed,” rather than after three business days if they haven’t received a denial, as allowed by law.

The 13 senators who signed the letter are:

  • Richard Blumenthal (CT),
  • Chris Murphy (CT),
  • Edward J. Markey (MA),
  • Dick Durbin (IL),
  • Mazie Hirono (HI),
  • Kirsten Gillibrand (NY),
  • Dianne Feinstein (CA),
  • Sheldon Whitehouse (RI),
  • Tim Kaine (VA),
  • Chuck Schumer (NY),
  • Jack Reed (RI),
  • Barbara Boxer (CA) and
  • Robert Menendez (NJ).

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill did not sign the letter but issued a statement saying she “applauds retailers who’ve taken this proactive step.”

Sheriff John T Chance (played by John Wayne): “I hear you’re mighty good with a gun, lad.”

Colorado Ryan (played by Rick Nelson): “Yes, I am. But, there is something I’m even better at!”

Chance: “… and what’s that?”

Ryan: “Minding my own business.”

(From the 1959 feature film, “Rio Bravo.”)
