- ATF finally speaks on the NFA ruling.

- US District Judge James O. Browning of the District of New Mexico has granted summary judgment and entered final judgment holding New Mexico’s seven-day firearm waiting period unconstitutional in Ortega v. Grisham. But the “judge” limited the decision to only the two plaintiffs in the case. The unconstitutional law still stands for everyone else.
- The US Third Circus kangaroo Court of Appeals ruled this week that machine guns are protected “Arms” but upheld the federal ban and NFA suppressor-registration requirements anyway in United States v. Berger.
- Louisiana is getting sued over its unconstitutional ban on handgun carry permits for 18-to-20-year-old adults. The case — Pool v. Besson — is in US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
- Suspension of Couple’s Gun Rights Because Their College Student Daughter Drew Allegedly Threatening Images Violated Second Amendment. In my opinion this should have been a criminal prosecution of the involved officers, and they should be rotting in jail.

- A new Supreme Court brief makes one of the strongest originalist arguments for protecting the AR-15: Its value as a militia arm is precisely why it falls within the Second Amendment. Unfortunately, the brief then undercuts its own argument by treating machine guns as constitutionally disposable.

Survey Says
- A new national survey estimates that approximately 26 million Americans own approximately 60 million AR-15-type and similarly styled rifles. That is pretty common use.
- A newly published national firearms survey from Georgetown University professor William English estimates that Americans use firearms defensively against animal threats roughly 180,000 times every year. Yeah, that’s why I post them here under DGUs.

- The International Maritime Organization (IMO), a United Nations agency, told countries to “strongly discourage” merchant ship crews from acquiring firearms to defend against piracy, despite 90 sailors being held hostage by Somali pirates. In my book, that puts the IMO and the UN on the same side as the pirates and deserving of the same treatment.
