Litigation

  • Leftist SCOTUS Justice Elena Kagan wrote the UNANIMOUS opinion in last week’s high court decision striking down Mexico’s lawsuit and described AR-15s and AK-47s as “both widely legal and bought by many ordinary consumers.” The question now is, what argument is the left half of the court going to hide behind to try to uphold a domestic ban of those same firearms? So far, they’ve just refused to do their jobs and hear the cases.
  • A new petition filed with the Supreme Court last Friday asks the justices to find unconstitutional the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), which imposes special tax and registration requirements on owners of rifles with a barrel shorter than 16 inches. Well, the NFA IS clearly unconstitutional.
  • The US District Court in Colorado has upheld that state’s ban on firearm purchases by individuals under 21, claiming that the state’s age restriction falls within a “presumptively lawful” category of gun regulations. But there are no “presumptively lawful” gun control laws. Government gun control is presumptively unconstitutional. See the Bill of Rights.
  • The Second Amendment Foundation and the New Jersey Firearms Owners Syndicate, have filed a lawsuit in US District Court challenging New Jersey’s ban on adults under the age of 21 from purchasing, owning or carrying handguns and handgun ammunition. The case is Hague v. Murphy. This is SAF’s 11th lawsuit challenging handgun bans for adults under age 21.
  • Case challenging California suppressor ban moves forward in US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • The US Second Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week that the federal statute prohibiting firearm possession by people convicted of minor, non-violent “white collar” felonies is constitutional. A SCOTUS appeal is in progress.
  • The US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the ban on firearm possession for a felon who was at fault in a reckless driving incident. This might be a “bad cases make bad law” decision.
  • Grassroots report.

Enemies and government.

But I repeat myself.
A person flexes their arm with minimal muscle definition. Text above and below reads: "David Hogg showing you he has the masculinity the Democrat party desperately needs.
  • A commenter noted that Democrats in various jurisdictions are working to pass laws legalizing assisted suicide, while at the same time working to pass laws banning guns because they are used in suicides. Well, that’s how they “think.”
A man sits outside on a patio holding a can, with a caption above and below him reading, "Sometimes you look at people and wonder, How do they fit all that stupid into one head.
  • The Department of Homeland Security was aware that the illegal immigrant accused of setting multiple pro-Israel demonstrators on fire in an attack in Boulder, Colorado on June 1 tried to buy a firearm but was denied after failing a background check last November, but apparently did nothing to alert the Department of Justice or Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the man’s status as an illegal immigrant.
  • Update on the Patrick “Tate” Adamiak case.

The Only Ones

  • A Chicago police officer working in a tactical unit operation was fatally shot in the back by her unidentified partner while they were chasing a fleeing suspect last week. Apparently a second subject pointed a gun at the officers and the partner fired at that person, hitting the victim.
  • Grayson County (Texas) Sheriff Tony Bennie was not charged after he left his gun unattended inside a metro Atlanta Wendy’s bathroom, where it was later found by a teenager.

Industry News

  • Zeiss is shrinking its sports optics production.
  • The Marines have issued the service’s largest contract for polymer-cased .50 BMG ammunition, a five-year $95 million contract, awarded to Nammo to be filled at the company’s MAC facility in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The company uses an advanced polymer caselet over a metal cap to reduce ammo weight by as much as 30% and provide cooler chamber temperatures, ejecting cool-to-the-touch cases. No modifications are necessary in weapons or procedures when using their polymer-cased cartridges. The links are also polymer.
