Administration
- The US DOJ has filed an amicus brief saying that Illinois’ bans on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines that can hold more than ten rounds violate the protections of the Second Amendment. Yes, the US Department of Justice. Apparently they can read history now. This is why we voted for Mr. Trump.

- The US Department of the Interior this week announced 42 new proposed hunting opportunities across more than 87,000 acres within the National Wildlife Refuge System and National Fish Hatchery System.
Litigation
- Without explanation, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit just withdrew a deeply flawed ruling that claimed suppressors aren’t “arms” protected by the Second Amendment. Apparently this sort of thing is rare, and probably means the Circuit realized its mistake. The case is United States v. Peterson.
- Also from the Fifth Circuit this week, a three-judge panel upheld the conviction of a man charged with violating the Federal Gun Free School Zones Act by possessing an AR-15 in a vehicle he was living in 40 feet from a private Catholic school. It ruled that the modern buffer zone around schools comported with historical analogues dating back nearly 700 years in England that prohibited possessing firearms in a manner that might “terrify the People.”
- The panel and the Supreme Court are both wrong about the law’s constitutionality hinging on historical analogues,
- The old law may well have been unconstitutional as well. Where’s that in your ruling? And,
- The Constitution does not cease to apply in areas of the country which happen to fall within a fake made-up “school zone,” or on public property.

DGUs
- The Armed Citizen:
- Man shot, killed after attacking Good Samaritan in Mississippi, police say
- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Tactics & Stuff
- I filed this one here instead of under DGUs, simply as an example of why not to use birdshot in a defensive shotgun. Note that while retreating after being shot apparently without much effect, the perpetrator fired at least five rounds and that it was the broken pelvis from his fall and not the birdshot wound that mostly contributed to his capture.
